ABOUT US

Arkoudalegal is a law consultancy network, managed by Philip J.S. Jones, with contacts spread from England, Spain, California & Peru.

Why choose Arkouda Legal?

Phillip J.S. Jones is a fully qualified legal consultant but not a solicitor. This may appear to be a disadvantage but it does in fact bring huge benefits. Philip is his own man, he thinks outside the box, yet he works within the rules to bring you a time and cost effective solution to your legal needs.

Our History

When working pro bono for the California Rural Legal Association in 2006, Philip discovered a firm that was tired of seeing people ruined by divorce through unnecessary argument fueled by shameless lawyers. The same firm would only work for the couple as opposed to the individual. This led to a fair cost effective outcome for all concerned.

Arkouda is Greek for Bear and California, formally known as the Bear State from 1848-1850, is where the idea of one lawyer acting for both members of the partnership originated. While there are many good family lawyers, Arkouda Legal is a reaction to the pain and suffering caused by unprincipled, amoral family lawyers.

Philip's Legal Education

Philip's dissertation was on Family Law reform in 2008, where he advocated no-fault divorce and the use of one lawyer, not two. However, though he was told by a professor that this was the answer to Family Law problems, it was not until 2021 that fault was removed from Divorce in England.

Nonetheless, though perfectly legal, we await the instigation of the one lawyer rule. After all, why would lawyers change the rules of a business that has an income of over £10 billion a year?

Personal History with Divorce

Arkouda Legal is managed by Philip J.S. Jones. As a previous international reinsurance broker for Lloyds of London, he left in the late 90's and set up a lucrative property business which was destroyed when he got divorced due to excessive legal fees. His legal bill was such that, after solicitor's miscalculation of asset values and a protracted divorce case, he lost everything he ever worked for.

The estimated legal costs at the outset were £2,500 to £4,500 if the matter went to court. The real legal costs were over £98,000. It was this injustice that led him to study Law in English (and Spanish) in order to sue the two firms of unethical, fraudulant solicitors that represented him in his divorce, before he had finished his law degree.

Since that time, Philip has worked to help those in need to rectify problems caused by unscrupulous lawyers, having suffered the consequences of a corrupt system himself. It is a sad indictment against the legal profession that too many lawyers choose money over morality, oblivious to the untold harm that they cause.

"The immorality of greed is endemic in Family Law to such an extent that some lawyers are now, after many years of denial, beginning to admit the damaging effects of shameless, unethical lawyers, on the basic fabric of society, which is the family."
